• Bob Dylan’s 2004 memoir Chronicles includes a reminiscence by Dylan of seeing Ellen perform in Minnesota on tour as a folksinger, in a section of the book talking about Dylan’s days learning about folk music from Spider John Koerner in Dinkytown near the University of Minnesota campus in the late 1950s. Ellen had not yet come to Minnesota to work as a professor, but she played Minneapolis as a musician several times. She and Dylan would meet later on in Detroit in 1964 after he saw one of her shows there, but that’s another story entirely.
